Etsy Views but No Sales? 7 Causes and the Order to Check Them
Getting views on Etsy but no sales? Use your favourites count to find the problem, then check the seven usual causes, from the first photo and total price to delivery and personalisation.
The short answer: views with no sales mean shoppers find your listing and then decide not to buy. Etsy lists the usual reasons itself: photos, price, reviews, the title and description, and shipping and return policies. Start with your favourites count. Views with few favourites usually point at the first photo or the price.
This is a better problem than no views at all. Etsy is already showing your listing to people. The job now is to find the one or two things that make them leave, and the order you check them in matters.
First, Check That It Really Is “No Sales”
Three checks before you change anything:
- Views and visits are different numbers. Etsy counts one visit per shopper session, but a view every time a listing is opened. One shopper who looks at six listings is one visit and six views. A listing with 60 views may have had far fewer real shoppers.
- Look at a long enough period. Etsy warns that a short time frame, such as a single month, gives a misleading picture. Compare year over year if your shop is old enough.
- Look at where the views came from. In Stats → How shoppers found you, a burst of views from a social media post or an ad can bring in people who were curious, not shopping. Views from Etsy search come from people who typed a search, which is the traffic to judge a listing on.
Then Use Favourites to Find the Problem
Favourites are the clue most sellers ignore. They tell you whether shoppers liked what they saw before something else put them off.
- Views, few favourites: shoppers open the listing and aren't drawn in. Look at the photos, the price, and whether the listing is what the search promised.
- Views, lots of favourites, no sales: shoppers want it but something stops them at the last step. Look at shipping cost and delivery time, reviews, the return policy, and any personalisation that is hard to fill in.
ListingLab's free shop audit does this sort for every listing at once: it puts listings with at least your shop's average views but no more than average favourites in their own group, so you can see them together.
The 7 Usual Causes, in the Order to Check Them
1. The First Photo Doesn't Sell the Item
The first photo does the selling in search and again at the top of the listing. Etsy's own requirements for its main photo: high resolution (2,000 pixels or more recommended), the finished item on its own, clear and well lit, and not a collage. Then use the other slots to answer questions: scale (the item in a hand or on a person), detail, packaging, and the item in use. Etsy now lets you add two videos per listing, which is another way to show size and movement.
2. The Total Price Feels Wrong
Buyers compare. Search for your item the way a shopper would and look at what similar listings cost, including shipping. For US listings, Etsy gives priority in search to domestic shipping under $6, and a high shipping charge at checkout is a common reason a shopper with a favourite never buys. If you are above the range, your photos and description need to show why.
3. Not Enough Trust Yet
A new shop with no reviews asks a buyer to take a chance. You can't buy reviews, but you can make the shop look complete: a logo (Etsy treats a missing one as a search visibility issue), a filled-in About section, a clear return policy, and fast replies to messages. Etsy's customer service standards (replying on time, shipping on time with tracking) also feed into search.
4. The Description Leaves Questions Unanswered
Read your description as a buyer who can't touch the item. Does it give the exact size, the materials, what is included, how it is made and how long it takes to arrive? Every unanswered question is a reason to leave and “think about it”. Our description tips include a template.
5. The Listing Attracts the Wrong Searches
Sometimes the views are from people looking for something else. Select Etsy search in your Stats to see the search terms that bring visitors. If you sell a hand-painted sign and the top search term is “printable sign”, you are getting views from people who want a digital download. Fix the title and tags so they describe what you actually sell, even if that means fewer, better views.
6. Delivery Is Too Slow or Unclear
Gift buyers in particular need a date. Check that your processing time is realistic and short enough for the season, and that the estimated delivery date Etsy shows is one a buyer would accept.
7. Personalisation Is Hard to Order
If the item needs a name, date or colour choice, make it easy. Etsy has improved custom options (formerly personalisation) and now allows up to three variations, so you can turn instructions buried in the description into choices the buyer just picks.
Change One Thing at a Time
Pick the most likely cause, change it, and give it two to three weeks before judging. If you change the photos, the price and the title on the same day, you won't know which one worked.

Audit My Shop FreeFrequently Asked Questions
Why do I get views on Etsy but no sales?
Shoppers are finding the listing and deciding not to buy. Etsy names the usual reasons itself: photo quality, price, reviews, the title and description, and shipping and return policies. Check favourites first: plenty of views with few favourites usually points at the first photo or the price.
What is a good conversion rate on Etsy?
Etsy does not publish a benchmark. It defines conversion rate as the share of visits to your shop that end in an order, and calls it one of the most important numbers for growing a shop. Compare your own listings and months with each other rather than with a figure from someone else's shop.
How many views should a listing get before it sells?
There is no fixed number, and a few dozen views is too few to judge. Look at a longer period, at least a month and ideally year over year, as Etsy itself recommends, before deciding a listing does not sell.
Can views with no sales hurt my Etsy ranking?
Etsy does not say exactly. It does say that search looks at listing quality and customer service, and that its ads score listings partly on listing and shop history. A listing that keeps getting skipped earns no sales or reviews, which a shop needs over time, so it is worth fixing rather than waiting.
Should I lower my prices if I get views but no sales?
Not as a first step. Check the total cost a buyer sees, including shipping, against similar items, and make sure the photos and description show why yours is worth its price. Cutting the price on a listing with a weak first photo often changes nothing.
