Why check title, tags and description together
The three parts of a listing do different jobs. The title tells buyers and Etsy what the item is. The tags add the other searches it should be found for. The description answers the questions a buyer has before they buy. Checking them one at a time misses the mistakes between them: tags that only repeat the title, or a description that just copies it.
The most common problems we see
- Titles stuffed to 140 characters with the same word three times. Etsy suggests fewer than 15 words.
- Empty tag slots. Every one of the 13 is a search the listing could be found for.
- Two tags that are the same search, such as “necklace gift” and “necklace gifts”.
- Single-word tags like “gift” or “silver”, which match almost nothing a buyer types.
- Sales words such as “perfect” or “free shipping” in the title, which Etsy's guidance says to leave out.
When the checks pass but views stay low
Clean text is the starting point, not the finish. If every check passes and a listing still gets few views, the usual causes are the first photo, the price compared with similar items, too few reviews, or words that do not match how buyers search for this kind of item. Our guide to why an Etsy shop is not getting views walks through each one.
To see what similar listings use, paste your shop link on the ListingLab homepage: every active listing is checked, and each rewrite is built from a live Etsy search for the same product.
