Every fee Etsy charges on a sale
Etsy's fees come in a few layers. These are the ones the calculator adds up, with the rates Etsy publishes in its Help Center (checked 20 October 2026):
- Listing fee: US$0.20. Charged when you list, and again each time an item sells (the listing renews automatically). If a buyer takes three of the same item, you pay $0.20 for each one.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the order total, including the shipping and gift wrap you charge.
- Payment processing fee: a percentage plus a fixed amount per order, set by the country of your bank account. United States 3% + $0.25. United Kingdom 4% + £0.20. Canada and Australia 3% + 0.25 for domestic orders, 4% + 0.25 for international ones.
- Regulatory operating fee in some countries, on item price plus shipping: UK 0.48%, Canada 0.50%, France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%.
- Offsite Ads fee: 15% (or 12% for shops with $10,000+ in sales over the past year) when Etsy's ad on another site brings the sale, capped at $100 an order.
- VAT or GST on fees for sellers in the UK, Australia and many other countries who have not given Etsy a VAT number, and GST/HST for Canadian sellers.
- Currency conversion: 2.5% if your listings are priced in a different currency from your bank account.
A worked example
A US seller sells one mug for $25 and charges $5 shipping. The order total is $30.
- Listing fee: $0.20
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of $30 = $1.95
- Payment processing: 3% of $30 + $0.25 = $1.15
Etsy keeps $3.30 and pays out $26.70. If the mug cost $6 to make and $4 to post, the profit is $16.70. If the same sale had come through an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $4.50 would go, and the profit would drop to $12.20.
How to use your numbers
Most sellers price by adding a margin to their costs and forget that roughly a tenth of every order goes to Etsy before ads. Put your real costs into the calculator, then:
- Check your lowest-priced items. The fixed parts (the $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing fee) hurt most on cheap items.
- Look at shipping. Fees are charged on the shipping you collect, so free shipping built into the price costs the same in fees as charging it separately.
- Plan for Offsite Ads. If your shop is over $10,000, you cannot opt out, so price so that a 12% ad sale is still worth making.
Fees decide what you keep; views decide whether you sell at all. If your listings are getting few views, the free listing checker shows what in your title and tags is working against you.
